My last birthday.

Welp, this is it. My final birthday. I refuse to turn 40...although I've been promised a trip to NYC and I do love me some cake and presents. Ahhhh, who am I kidding? Bring 'em on! But seriously, 39?! How'd that happen?? I don't feel 39 (not that I know what that's supposed to feel like) but I will say, my mirror is showing some serious signs of what I'm pretty sure is happening, quite rapidly.

It was nice though, in spite of all that mess. So many fun festivities! Garret had to go to class the day of my actual birthday so the weekend before he surprised me with paddle boarding, lunch at my fave restaurant and a beautiful bracelet....all sans kiddos (that was present enough! :).

It was down on Naples Beach which is soooo much nicer than the brown sludge currently making our beach look like a swamp.

It wasn't as hard as I thought....of course there was no one to take a photo of us standing, but I swear we did it...for like a whole hour! We even saw a pod of dolphins up close (after the 100th episode I had been watching of Shark Week, that first fin freaked me out, not gonna lie).

We then went to The Fish House....yum. Between the rum runners, crab dip and fish tacos, it was kinda like my version of Heaven. My hubs just knows exactly what I need. He's truly my best friend! Perfect day with the perfect man!

That weekend, we had the usual girls' get together! This time Colleen, Trisha and I decided to combine our August Birthdays since it's getting increasingly difficult for us all to get together! It was so relaxing! Trisha's brother has a condo downtown with this amazing pool on the river! We then went downtown for dinner, drinks and dancing. Loved every minute! Quality time with my ladies=happy birthday to me.

The day after my birthday we decided to do something fun and rent scooters on the beach. Trisha and Jay...being part of our scooter gang and all, decided to join us. We're thinking it outta be an annual event. Until our licences are revoked by our grand kids anyway....

And on my "real" birthday, Mom made me home-made lasagna! Oh, and the COLD STONE, yes, cold.stone.cake....I died. And certainly didn't lose any of that extra baby weight. Whatevs. So worth it.

I know Buddy. 39...I'm bummed about it too.....

First Day of Pre-K!!

Well, today was Maddie's First Day of Pre-K!! She is back at her old stomping grounds,  FMCS! And by "stomping" I was not trying to be cute but she is wearing her boots...100 degrees but the girl insisted. I can't deny her fuchsia boots. I'm a mom but I'm still a girl, for Pete's sake! I so get it.

She was super excited! A: she loves school and B: she got her favorite teacher, Miss Schrieber. At orientation, when we learned who her teacher was, she could barely contain her enthusiasm. "I got Miss Driver (this is what she insists her name really is, because, well, grown-ups are usually wrong about, um, everything)!!".

Her year in Pre-K3 really got her used to the routine so when I dropped her off, she went to her "desk", blew me a kiss and waved good-bye. I'm so proud of her...she's fearless and I greatly admire that quality in her. I wish she'd have a healthy fear of me but hey, I'll take a brave and assertive girl any day!

7 months. How is this happening so fast?!

Why is it with the first child you just rush everything along? Walking, talking ...moving out?? ;) Gavin's sitting up and starting to scoot. Ugh...already?!

Seriously though....I want to freeze time. Our baby is eating, sleeping, smiling....but still containable and non-verbal, AKA: unable to talk back...ahhhhh. Can it just stay like this forever??!

Ok, ok. I get it. Time marches on (as is evident in my mirror). If it must be so, I am glad I get to witness these two beautiful creatures growing and learning. It's really kind of traumatizing amazing.
